Registration of Marriage in Christian Matrimony

Christian matrimony is related to getting two christians or one christian married to another christian or a person belonging to another religion. But for a person to be a part of christian matrimony it is necessary either of one bride or groom to be christian. Although these days various sites have been developed which are into the  work of Christian Matrimony and their main task is to get two Christian marriages done.

Christian matrimony needs to be performed as per the guidelines mentioned under The Christian Marriage Act 1872 and every matrimony site who is performing the work related to Christian wedding or an individual need to understand these laws before getting married.

Registration of Marriage under The Christian Marriage Act 1872:-

It is necessary for every person belonging to any religion to get their marriage registered in the court despite the way they got married. Either they got married in the court or they got married through the proper customs and process of their religion they need to get their marriage register and there are few conditions for getting a marriage register which are as follows:-

  • It is necessary to get the marriage registrar within the jurisdiction where any person between both the parties resides which means marriage should be registered within the jurisdiction of either place of where the bride or groom resides.
  •  The marriage should be registered by the person who is the marriage registrar and was present at the marriage for making the wedding solemnized and is the part of the union of the marriage registrar.
  • A slip of acknowledgement is needed by both the parties for along with their authorized signatures getting into wedlock for the purpose of registration.
  • A slip of acknowledgment is needed by both the witnesses along with their authorized signatures present at the time of marriage.
  • All the documents need to be attached in an application which needs to be submitted before the marriage registrar for the purpose of registration of the marriage.
  • The slips of acknowledgement are further needed to be sent to the registrar who is responsible for recording the death, birth and marriages.
  • There is special provision under this act which has a provision of endorsing the marriage between christians without a prior notice.

Points to be noted down:-

  • Make sure at the time of wedding bride should be atleast of the age of 18 years and groom should be atleast of the age of 21 years.
  • Both the parties who are getting into wedlock are of sound mind and are doing it with their voluntary consent.
  • The marriage should either perform at court in front of the marriage registrar or either at church in front of a priest who is authorized from the church of scotland.
  • It is necessary to have two witnesses who are credible.
  • While getting a marriage registered one needs documents related to age proof, wedding photograph, invitation of wedding, passport size photograph of both the parties, an affidavit of sound mental condition, residence proof of both the parties, certificate of marriage issued by the priest or minister who performed the marriage.
